To be honest here, as a dyslexic photographer the names (profiles and presets ) are too similar. I get confused all the time. I hope I can explain a way that makes it easier for y’all. 

Profiles and Preset are VERY different. It is important to know the difference. 

However both can dramatically speed up your editing workflow.

All raw data from cameras needs to be interpreted in some way before it can be displayed as a picture.  

PROFILES provide different baseline interpretations of the raw data, some good starting points for different subjects (landscapes, portraits, etc.), some very stylized.  Profiles do not affect edit sliders.  

PRESETS are saved collections of EDIT settings. Applying a Preset moves edit sliders to whatever values are specified in the preset.

So what does this mean for you?

PRESETS and PROFILES are both great ways to save time if you have come up with a look you would like to repeat.

In addition they are a great ways of discovering NEW looks. As long as you know which to use when.
